10-20-10 Patriotic Commission Meeting
PATRIOTIC COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING
October 20, 2010


A quorum being present, Chairperson Margaret Byrnes called the regular meeting of the Patriotic Commission to order at 7:20 p.m. in the second floor conference room in the Town Hall, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.


PRESENT:        Margaret Byrnes, Charles Clarke, Bernard Corona, Edward Dettore, Vincent Parys, Susan Tukey
ABSENT:    Melodie Wilson
EXCUSED:        Paul Barry, Patricia Begley, Richard Begley, Linda Carrasquillo


OPPORTUNITY FOR CITIZENS/RESIDENTS TO SPEAK:

None

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:  

Commissioner Charles Clarke made the motion to accept the minutes of the September 15th meeting. 2nd by Commissioner Susan Tukey.  MOTION:  Passed.
       
CORRESPONDENCE: Chairperson Margaet Byrnes received a resignation letter from Mike and Victoria Brinius.  Letter was presented to the Town Clerk and is on file with the Commission.
Chairperson Margaret Byrnes received a letter from Veterans Flag Depot regarding pricing for American Flags. Letter was given to Commissioner Charles Clarke to request a sample and compare pricing with current vendor.

BILLS: Motion made by Commissioner Charles Clarke to pay the clerk. 2nd by Commissioner Susan Tukey.  MOTION:  Passed.  

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Chairperson Margaret Byrnes will research and report Commission balance at November 17th meeting.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Press releases regarding the placement of flags for Veteran’s Day have gone out to the papers.  Placement of flags for Veteran’s Day will be Saturday, November 6th. Commission members will meet at 7:15 – 7:30 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery.  Veteran’s Day Parade, Sunday, November 7 in Hartford. Patriotic Commission will participate with their float driven by Commissioner Vinny Parys.
Chairperson Margaret Byrnes has received notification that the plaque for Staff Sgt. Richard Ford will be available in November.  Chairperson Byrnes will meet with Commissioner Paul Barry to discuss the dedication ceremony.                 

NEW BUSINESS: Commissioner Bernard Corona made a motion that Bicentennial Square be renamed Veteran’s Bicentennial Square.  This will perhaps enable the Commission to obtain a grant for future additions. Chairperson Margaret Byrnes will research and report to the Commission.  Commissioner Susan Tukey 2nd.  MOTION:  Passed.
